Clothing drive to benefit team trip

The Bear Gap Vaulters will be holding a clothing drive Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the corner of routes 61 and 487, Paxinos. The group is collecting clothing, shoes, fabric household items (rugs, towels, sheets, etc.), dolls, hard toys and bicycles. Funds raised will help the team reach the regional championships in Lexington, Va. Bear Gap Vaulters are non-profit. Donations are tax deductible.

Center not accepting plastic bags

COAL TOWNSHIP - Effective immediately, the Coal Township Recycling Center will no longer accept plastic garbage and shopping bags because residents have been placing household trash and dog feces in recycling barrels marked for plastic bags.

Anyone dropping off recyclables at the center will be required to take their empty bags home with them.

Letters of support needed for grant

MOUNT CARMEL - The borough will be submitting a competitive grant application for Community Development Block Grant funding for the Shamokin Creek Flood Protection Project. The borough is asking all residents to send letters of support that state the benefits the project will have on the community.

All letters should be mailed to David Grey, SEDA-Council of Governments, 201 Furnace Road, Lewisburg 17837 or e-mailed to dgrey@sedacog.org. Pictures documenting flooding are also recommended.
