Simple assault
SHAMOKIN - Police charged Juan C. Rodriquez, 28, of 17 E. Church St., Shamokin, with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct and harassment following a domestic dispute at his residence at 1:44 a.m. Thursday.
Shamokin City Police Patrolman Darwin Tobias III reported in court documents that Rodriquez and the victim were involved in a domestic argument when Rodriquez began to throw and smash items in their residence and then threw items through a second-story window. Glass and many broken items were observed by police, who said the victim ran through the area to leave the residence and suffered a cut to her right foot.
Among the items thrown out the window was a vacuum cleaner, the affidavit states.
The defendant at one point smashed a mirror over his head, the victim told police, and punched walls, a window and a flat-screen TV.
Rodriquez told police he began breaking and punching things so he wouldn't hit the victim.
The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, Shamokin.
Truck theft charge
COAL TOWNSHIP - Police charged Conchetta A. O'Connell, 20, of 1012 W. Lynn St., Coal Township, with a number of criminal offenses related to the theft of a truck on March 26.
According to court documents, police received a report on March 27 from Samantha Sarfine, of Tharp Street, Coal Township, that her 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 truck was missing. Later that day, police received another report that a truck matching the description was found stuck in the area of Stoney Point in Coal Township. O'Connell and two male friends, both 17 years old, came to the station and she said she stole the truck in Tharptown and tried to drive it off a cliff because she was trying to kill herself, and that she was turning herself in.
Officer Matthew J. Hashuga then interviewed the two males. When the police officer told her the story wasn't adding up, the males then confessed to stealing a different car the night before and getting it stuck in Tharptown. They spoke with O'Connell and the three went to get the car, but it was gone, so they looked and found Sarfine's truck unlocked and with the keys in it, so they took that vehicle and got it stuck at Stoney Point, police allege.
When O'Connell was confronted, she admitted to making up the story to protect her friends, according to police.
Charges of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, unauthorized use of automobiles, criminal mischief and criminal conspiracy to commit theft were filed against O'Connell in the office of Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, Shamokin.
